AC/DC Goes Shopping At Wal-Mart
Band signs on with Store Chain to market 1st CD in Ten Years
AC/DC is the latest artist to sign on with Wal-Mart to exclusively carry the group's next album. The upcoming still-untitled disc from the veteran Australian group will only be available from Wal-Mart and Sam's Club locations once it's issued this fall. AC/DC's new CD will be the band's first collection of new studio material in nearly a decade. It's the group's long-awaited follow up to 2000's "Stiff Upper Lip." With the exclusive distribution agreement, AC/DC follows in the footsteps of such artists as The Eagles and Journey, who delivered their most recent CDs under similar Wal-Mart deals.
The move didn't appear to hurt sales of The Eagles' disc at all. Released in late October, "The Long Road Out of Eden" sold more than 700-thousand copies in its first week out, and U.S. sales are approaching the three-million mark. Journey's three-disc CD/DVD set "Revelation" arrived at Wal-Mart stores last week.
