One lesson of Soundgarden's reunion since 2010 has been flexibility -- particularly with drummer Matt Cameron. During the group's 13-year split Cameron joined Pearl Jam and now has to split his time between the two bands, which will mean missing Soundgarden's upcoming summer tour with Nine Inch Nails. He hand-picked his replacement -- session regular Matt Chamberlain -- and Soundgarden's Chris Cornell and Ben Shepherd tell us they don't mind having to share their skin-pounder:
Cornell: "Really, I think...this is idea. I don't know that I've heard of this before. Matt's basically, whenever he wants to come out he's coming out, and he can change his mind." Shepherd: "We've got another guy with the same initials playing drums for us, that makes it really easy." Cornell: "Yeah...or we can have two bathrobes with, like, the two" Shepherd: "MC's on there" Cornell: "And then we're good. I'm not really sure what his (Cameron's) schedule is, but you never know...Any time he wants to, (and) for sure when we start working on whatever our next record will be and whatever decisions we make, he's part of the band. He's just chosen someone to fill in for him sometimes." Soundgarden is currently in South America for Lollapalooza dates in Chile, Argentina and Brazil before heading to Europe for its own concerts and some dates with Black Sabbath. The run with Nine Inch Nails begins July 19 in Las Vegas.
