Have you ever pondered aloud, “Hey, I wonder what Kirk Hammett’s rendition of the 1892 standard ‘Daisy Bell (Bicycle Built for Two)’ would sound like? Well, ponder no more! Hammett, along with Katy Perry, Weird Al Yankovic and Nick Cave, were recruited by artist Mark Ryden to create “The Gay Nineties Old Tyme Music: Daisy Bell”, a charity album where each artist performs a rendition of the standard. According to Billboard.com, the album, which benefits music education charity Little Kids Rock, is printed on 180 g red vinyl and is available for purchase at Ryden’s gallery showing in Los Angeles for $99.99. The album will also be made available at the artist’s website on May 13th, but act quickly! Only 999 copies were printed. While it would be incredibly easy for me to criticize the pseudo-pretentious concept of this album, even the coldest area of my heart is touched by the album’s charitable nature in helping an organization fund music programs for school districts that have been forced to cut arts education. I hope all 999 copies sell out quickly.
