In addition to asking fans to choose the set lists for its upcoming European performances, Metallica is bringing its Snake Pit back for the shows. The Snake Pit -- an open, general admission area situated in front and to the sides of the stage -- made its debut during the group's 1991 tour in support of "Metallica" (aka "The Black Album") and has been used intermittently since, most recently during Metallica's 2012 summer tour. The group's official web site sports a message announcing, "It's not 1992...It's not even 2012 but the Snake Pit is back for another run this summer." Metallica is opening the area exclusively to its Met Club fans, with a contest running through May 21 for members to win a pair of Snake Pit passes to shows on the upcoming run, which starts May 28 at the Sonisphere Festival in Helsinki, Finland, and plays mostly festival dates before wrapping up July 13 in Istanbul, Turkey. Metallica debuted a new song, "The Lords of Summer," during its South American tour earlier this year and has hinted at more new material for Europe. The group is working on a new album, its follow-up to 2008's "Death Magnetic," though it's not expected to be released until 2015.
