Aerosmith has canceled its first-ever concert in Turkey in the wake of a tragedy that killed nearly 300 miners this week. The group was due to play Wednesday night (May 14) in Istanbul but decided to call the show off when government authorities declared a three-day period of national mourning after the fire and explosions that rocked the mine near Soma on Tuesday (May 13). In a statement, frontman Steven Tyler said that, "I woke up this morning to the horrific news. My heartfelt prayers go out to those who have died, those who are still trapped and their families. We are holding the people of Turkey close to our hearts and respecting the three days of mourning for a saddened nation." Guitarist Joe Perry added that, "Words can't express the sorrow we feel." There's no word yet on if Aerosmith will try to reschedule the show. The group is in Europe, including several festival appearances, through July 2, then starts a North American run on July 10, with Slash opening and appearances at the Big Music Fest July 13 in Kitchener, Ontario, and Rock Fest on July 19 in Cadott, Wisc.
