Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi is in line to receive a special honor of his home town of Birmingham, England. Iommi has been nominated for the prestigious Pride of Birmingham Award, which will be presented on September 26 and honors the town's most courageous and inspiring citizens. Iommi is a native of Birmingham, where Black Sabbath formed during 1969 and began a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame career that culminated in three Grammy Award wins earlier this year for the group's latest album, "13." Iommi also made headlines by battling lymphoma during the past two-plus years. Slash spoke on Iommi's behalf this week telling the Birmingham Mail that, "Everyone you meet in rock circles will tell you they were inspired by Black Sabbath and the band's influence is immeasurable. Besides which, Tony is a great guy...There's just no stopping him. He comes down with lymphoma and what does he do? Reform Black Sabbath and do a world tour. He really is the pride of Birmingham and he deserves a f***ing medal." Black Sabbath is currently on break after finishing its latest European tour in support of "13."
