Five Finger Death Punch starts the process of giving fans a whole lot of new music with today's (July 30) release of "The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell, Volume 1."
As the title indicates, the anxiously awaited album is one of two FFDP will be releasing this year, with "Volume 2" expected in the fall.
Guitarist Zoltan Bathory told us why the band was particularly prolific this time around:
"It was sort of a perfect storm. Two things happened -- one that we travel with a portable studio, the whole summer, so basically even though we didn't write full songs there were some skeletons of songs already...Since we had a studio we already had something to jump start from. So it's already easier. And everybody was just in a mindset of, like, 'Let's do this s***' So then we just started to pound out song after song, and things were getting better and better...Once we started to look back at what we had, we had 20-something songs...We were looking at the body of material and, y'know what, this is the best s*** we ever wrote. This is when the band really came together and it's really a well-oiled machine so to speak...So we were looking at what we were going to put on the record so there were no fillers. There were no songs that were not important to us for one reason or another...so we couldn't decide."
The first volume of "The Wrong Side of Heaven..." features guest appearances by Judas Priest's Rob Halford on the single "Lift Me Up" along with Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta, Soulfly's Max Cavalera, rapper Tech N9ne and In This Moment's Maria Brink; Bathory says there are more guests on Volume 2.
FFDP is currently on the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival tour, which wraps August 4. The group then starts a five-week North American tour on September 15 at the Monster Energy Aftershock festival in Sacramento, Calif.
